The Nepalese Australian Democratic Forum (NADF), has unanimously elected a new executive committee under the leadership of Dr. Gyanendra Regmi. The NADF was established 25 years ago to promote the values and principles of democracy within the Nepali community residing in Australia.

The new committee includes Chhabi Sapkota as Vice President, Hari Krishna Adhikari as General Secretary, Nijan Chaulagain as Secretary, Bikas Jha as Treasurer, and Bhupendra Kandel as Youth Coordinator, all of whom were unanimously elected. Similarly, Sujan Niraula, Surendra Shrestha, and Ramesh KC were elected as members of the committee.

The declaration of the unanimously elected executive committee and the leadership handover took place recently at an event held in Sydney, with Kiran Paudel, the Chief of the Nepali Congress International Department, as the chief guest. The event was also attended by Sanjeev Sharma, the Honorary Consul for Nepal in New South Wales and Anil Pokhrel, the President of NRNA Australia. Former presidents and office bearers of NADF were also present on that occassion.

Earlier, an election committee was formed, led by Surendra Sapkota and including members Bibek Thapa, Mahendra Lamsal, Surendra Sigdel, and Bal Chandra Bhattarai.

The newly elected President, Dr. Gyanendra Regmi, has expressed his commitment to developing NADF as a platform for in-depth discussions and deliberations on democracy and democratic values. He also aims to establish political connections for the Nepali community in Australia. Speaking to ANZKhabar, Regmi said that NADF will focus on knowledge production related to issues such as democracy, disaster prevention and management in Nepal, and the citizenship of the Nepali diaspora. “NADF will take proactive initiatives to engage with successful individuals and organizations from the Nepali community and promote their contributions to the larger Nepali community and Nepal,” Regmi said.

NADF, established even before the Nepali Embassy was founded in Australia, has long been recognized as an institution dedicated to fostering discussions on democratic values among Nepalis in Australia and contributing to Nepal’s democracy.
